A latest spotting of a Mahindra Thar Roxx test car has surfaced online. The new Thar Roxx is expected to be powered by a smaller diesel engine, and it could be introduced as a new base variant. Read more details about it below.

2026 Mahindra Thar Roxx coming with a 1.5L diesel engine?
The latest spy shots of a Thar Roxx test mule hint that Mahindra is possibly developing a new powertrain for the 5-door SUV. The success of Thar Roxx has been a big win for Mahindra, and the brand is expected to milk more out of the SUV by introducing a new base variant.
Although the test car looks loaded with top-spec features, as it gets dual-tone alloy wheels, a sunroof, and a 360-degree camera, we suspect that it features a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that is also featured on the Thar 3-door.
So, why the 1.5L diesel? As of now, the Thar Roxx is available with a 2.2L m-Hawk diesel engine and a 2.0L turbo petrol engine option. The addition of a new, smaller 1.5L engine will undercut the current starting price of Rs 12.39 lakh, which will make it substantially more affordable.
Meanwhile, it will also offer an option for customers who wish to use the car mostly on paved roads, hence offering more fuel efficiency and lower ownership costs. It will be a win-win powertrain for Mahindra if it is what we are guessing.
Currently, Mahindra is working on multiple ICE models, which include the Scorpio N facelift and the Scorpio N pickup truck, both of which are likely to be launched by mid-2027. The new 1.5L diesel Thar Roxx could be possibly introduced around Diwali 2026 to boost sales.
