Mercedes-Benz EQB axed, GLB EQ coming soon!

Mercedes-Benz EQB

The EQB was one of the select three-row SUVs of Mercedes-Benz globally. We are using “was” because the brand has announced that it is axing it in the US and Canada. The MY2025 EQB is the last model that will be sold in these markets. We suspect a similar announcement will come next year for the Indian market as well.

The EQB has reached its lifecycle end, according to the company. However, its sales figures were never that great. In fact, despite being priced aggressively and having the practicality of a full-size SUV, customers seemed to opt for the GLS, which has a wider and more plush market value.

So, what’s next? At the IAA Mobility Show 2023, the company had announced that it is developing an 800V architecture for the next-gen model that will replace the EQB. This hints at the upcoming GLB, which has been spied testing internationally as well. The GLB will launch next year with ICE and EV powertrains, where the EV will be called GLB EQ, and it will replace the EQB internationally.

As of now, not much is known about the new-gen GLB EQ, but we suspect the company will announce its launch timeline in the coming months. Meanwhile, the brand is on an expansion spree with 18 new model launches planned till 2027.
