2026 Toyota Hilux ANCAP crash test rating explained
The new-gen Hilux was recently subjected to an array of crash tests by the Australian Car Assessment Program or ANCAP. The results are exactly what anyone willing to buy it would want. The pickup truck has scored a 5-star overall rating with exceptional safety results.
As per the details, it scored 33.96/40 points in adult occupant safety and 44/49 points in child occupant safety. Additionally, in the frontal offset test, the driver and passenger had good safety for head, chest, knee, pelvis, and leg protection. The footwell area also offered good protection.
In the side impact tests, the new Hilux offered good protection to the head, neck, chest, and other critical body regions for the driver and passengers. The driver’s chest offered good protection in the oblique pole crash test.
In terms of child occupant safety, the 10-year-old and 6-year-old dummies noted good protection in the side impact and the front offset tests. Meanwhile, the bonnet and front windshield offered good protection for the pedestrian, whilst the pillars offered ‘poor’ results in pedestrian safety.
Mind you, these test results are valid for Australia and New Zealand, and the Hilux tested was equipped with Toyota Sense 2.0 or Level 2 ADAS with features like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Front Collision Alert and Intervention, etc. Additionally, the Rugged X variant is yet to be tested.
