Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Everything we know so far
The latest spotting of the upcoming FJ Cruiser, or the Land Cruiser FJ, shows the interesting details of the India-bound SUV. Toyota debuted the ‘small’ FJ Cruiser at the Japan Mobility Show last year, and the test car seems to be carrying similar design traits as seen on the pre-production model.
The Land Cruiser FJ will be targeted for budget-oriented markets, offering the 4WD capability, rugged and durable mechanism, and powerful performance. The test car seen in the spy shots is mostly camouflaged, but it carried the elements like the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and the vertical tailgate design with the vertical LED taillights.
The overall design of the FJ Cruiser will be utility-friendly and rugged, as it will feature big body claddings, flared wheel arches, big wheel articulation space, and short bumper overhangs for better off-road capability. As per the details, it will measure 4575mm in length, 1960mm in height, 1855mm in width, and have a wheelbase of 2580mm. These dimensions are slightly smaller than the Toyota Fortuner, further solidifying the fact that it will be positioned under the Fortuner.
The front fascia, although not visible in the spy shots, will carry the C-shaped LED headlamps, a rugged bumper with a skid plate, and a horizontal grille. The side profile will have the conventional door handles and functional roof rails. It is reported to get a ground clearance of 215mm, while the boot space will be large at 765 litres.
The cabin design of the Land Cruiser FJ will be inspired by the new-gen RAV4 Hybrid. It will feature an all-black cabin, portraying its off-road-oriented styling. Meanwhile, the dashboard is expected to feature a vertical design with twin connected screens and a three-spoke steering wheel. The new FJ Cruiser will be a 5-seater SUV.
Online reports hint that it will get the modern tech and features like the wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control, an electric sunroof, ambient lights, fast charging USB ports, drive and traction modes, an electronic parking brake, and a suspected ADAS safety suite as well.
Powering the new-gen FJ Cruiser will be the 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 161 bhp and 246 Nm of power and torque. It is likely to be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the 4WD and locking differentials will be offered as standard. Toyota could possibly offer the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine as well, while the possibility of a hybrid powertrain in the future can not be denied as well.
Toyota is expected to debut the new FJ Cruiser in 2027. However, it won’t be anytime before 2028 that the Indian market will get to see it on the roads.
