What to expect from the first car of JSW Motors?
JSW Group will step into the auto market in India soon. The brand has tied up with Jetour, a Chinese carmaker that has been doing well in international markets like the UAE, to launch its first-ever car.
Online rumours have been hinting at the Jetour T2 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV that is popular in the Middle East for its affordability and efficiency, which will be introduced as JSW’s first car. The latest advertisement published by the brand is now inviting new dealerships to connect for business, while the advertisement also shows the silhouette of the unnamed SUV.
This unnamed SUV will be based on the T2 PHEV, but it is likely to boast cosmetic changes and interior tweaks to differentiate it from Jetour’s identity. JSW Motors is backed by JSW Group, which has been active in the steel industry for a long time.
The T2 plug-in hybrid SUV uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, developing 154 bhp and 220 Nm, which is paired with an electric motor to boost its performance and efficiency. With the PHEV tech, it can cover up to 139 km on pure electric power, which takes its total range to 800 km.
JSW was earlier planning to launch the first car by mid-2026. However, import restrictions on parts sourced from China are leading to a delay, which the brand has been sorting out at its best. The first JSW SUV is likely to be priced around Rs 15-30 lakh, depending on the engine option and variant.
