Tata Nexon CNG+AMT coming soon?

Tata Nexon

The test mule of the current-gen Nexon was recently spotted in Pune. While the car looks unaltered from the production model, which is already on sale, the test mule hints at a new powertrain and drivetrain combination, which could be the CNG+AMT combo.

While the current Nexon is equipped with a turbo-CNG engine, which is first in the segment, it does not get an automatic transmission. Mind you, other models like the Punch, Tiago, and Tigor come with the CNG+AMT option, which happens to be in demand among new buyers.

If it is what we hope it is, the next update on the Nexon is likely to bring the AMT option for CNG buyers. The AMT gearbox, although not very refined, is a low-cost luxury option for city buyers who often travel in traffic. Further solidifying our assumption is the exhaust can, which hints that it is an ICE unit.

With that said, more details regarding this new powertrain could surface in the coming months. And we believe that Tata could launch the CNG+AMT Nexon variants by the festive season later this year.
