Key highlights
- Toyota Kirloskar Motor crosses 2 lakh Innova HyCross sales
- Strong hybrid tech and practicality drive demand
- Offers up to 60% EV-mode operation in real-world usage
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that the Innova HyCross has crossed cumulative sales of 2 lakh units in India. Considering the model was launched only in November 2022, that is a solid pace for a relatively premium people mover.
A new chapter for the Innova badge
The HyCross marked a significant shift from the traditional Innova formula. It moved to a monocoque platform based on Toyota’s TNGA architecture. It ditched the diesel engine and introduced strong hybrid technology to a segment that had largely stayed conventional.
The HyCross blends the familiarity of the Innova brand with a more modern, efficiency-focused approach. That balance seems to have clicked with both private buyers and fleet operators.
Hybrid tech at the core
At the heart of the HyCross is Toyota’s 5th-generation self-charging strong hybrid system. It uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor to produce a combined 186 PS. The system allows the MPV to run in electric mode for up to 60% of the time, depending on driving conditions.
There is also a pure petrol version on offer, producing 174 PS, for buyers who prefer a simpler setup. What stands out here is not just the performance, but the efficiency. In a segment where fuel bills can quickly add up, the hybrid system offers a tangible advantage.
Comfort and practicality
Despite the shift in powertrain and platform, Toyota has ensured the HyCross still feels like an Innova where it matters. It offers a spacious 7- or 8-seat layout, with features like powered Ottoman seats in the second row, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a powered tailgate.
Add to that a 5-star safety rating under Bharat NCAP, and the package starts to look quite comprehensive.
Pricing and positioning
The Innova HyCross is priced from Rs 19.53 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it firmly in the premium MPV bracket.
Hybrid variants also come with an 8-year battery warranty, which helps address concerns around long-term ownership of electrified vehicles.
