Key highlights

  • Mahindra Vision S test mule spotted in Spiti Valley
  • New design details leaked
  • Gets squared-off projector LED headlights

Mahindra is known to test its upcoming cars rigorously. In a new online video leak, the upcoming Vision S prototype was seen testing through the high-altitude, tough terrain of the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The interesting thing about the new leak is the new design details that appear to be production-ready equipment.

Mahindra Vision S: What do we know so far?

The camouflaged test car seen in the leaked video has a different front fascia than the previously spotted test mules. The front design features the new squared-off projector LED headlights, a vertically-slated grille with a “teeth” like design, protruding side mirrors, and an upright SUV stance.

We already know that the Vision S will not look timid at all, and the new video clarifies its design proportions even further. The boxy outlook is enhanced by the modern bits like the flared wheel arches, chunky alloys, tailgate-mounted spare tyres, vertical LED taillights, and an overall design that resembles the JLR Defender to an extent.

A distant shot in the video also shows its big panoramic sunroof. The new Vision S will be based on the NU_IQ platform, which will enable the brand to offer petrol, diesel, and hybrid versions of the Vision S in the future. Initially, it is suspected to be launched with the 1.2-litre TGDI turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine options.

While we are not sure whether the brand will offer an AWD option on the production-spec model or not, we certainly believe that a 4WD version could become a reality in the future. In terms of the features it will come loaded with, the Vision S concept-inspired design includes vertical AC vents, a vertical dashboard, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a connected display, wireless charging, drive modes, and more.

Mahindra is expected to reveal the production-spec model of the Vision S next year. It will be positioned between the Scorpio N and the Bolero Neo, thus creating a new segment. Meanwhile, Renault is also working on a similarly styled SUV called Bridger, which will also launch next year in India, and compete with the Vision S.
