2026 Yamaha R2 pre-bookings commenced, launch on August 27

Key highlights

  • Yamaha R2 to be introduced on August 27, 2026
  • Pre-bookings commenced nationwide
  • Customers can cancel the pre-bookings from September 5, 2026

After a long wait, Yamaha is soon going to launch a new sports bike in India, likely to be a bigger version of the R15, called R2. The brand has released a teaser showing the commencement of pre-bookings and the launch event scheduled for August 27, 2026.

What to expect from the upcoming Yamaha R2?

The latest digital teaser shared by the brand shows the ‘R’ moniker, which hints at a new ‘R’ series motorcycle. Not long ago, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer homologated the R2 name in India, which further solidifies the fact that the new model will be a lightweight sports motorcycle.

As per online reports, the upcoming R2 will most likely be a big-bore version of the R15, which itself uses a 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor making 18.1 bhp. The R2 is likely to feature a 200cc engine that will be positioned against the KTM RC 200. Hence, its peak power and torque will be in the same range as the KTM, or maybe even more if we consider that the Yamaha R15 makes more power than the KTM RC 160.

In terms of styling, the R2 is expected to feature a committed riding position and bodywork similar to the R15 and R3. In fact, it will be positioned between these models to close the gap between the entry-level and middleweight sports bike categories.

Yamaha will likely equip it with smart features, including the coloured TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity, ride modes, traction modes, a dual-channel ABS, quickshifter, and more. Considering that it will be positioned above the R15, we suspect that the new R2 will be priced around Rs 2-2.3 lakh. More details are likely to surface in the coming days, but the brand has already announced that customers who pre-book can cancel their bookings after September 5, 2026.
