Report: Skoda Superb Diesel coming soon to India, launch in 2027

Key highlights

  • Skoda Superb diesel India launch confirmed
  • Likely to feature a 2.0-litre TDI engine with a 7-speed DSG gearbox
  • It will be the first diesel sedan in the segment

Skoda showcased the new-gen Superb sedan at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo with a diesel heart and a 4×4 drivetrain, pulling a lot of eyeballs. However, unlike other brands, Skoda has decided to launch the diesel-powered Superb in India. A recent report has revealed that the brand is set to launch the Superb diesel in India next year.

Skoda Superb Diesel: What to expect?

The fourth-generation Superb will be introduced in India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) via the import route. This means that it will be sold in limited numbers, and the price will also be on the steeper side, something similar to what we saw with the Skoda Kodiaq RS.

Speaking of the diesel engine, it is suspected to get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel powerplant with a DPF. This engine will mark the entry of the Skoda-VW brand into diesel engine manufacturing since 2020. Volkswagen-Skoda had discontinued diesel engines in 2020 to continue selling petrol-only cars in India.

The new Superb diesel will surely change the segment dynamics with its launch because no other sedan in the D-segment offers a diesel powertrain. With the growing demand for hybrid tech and the emission norms getting stricter consistently, most of the manufacturers have already axed their diesel powertrains. But Skoda-VW seems not to be giving up on diesel engines yet, as the brand already sells diesel-powered cars in Europe with 4×4.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is the major rival of the Superb in India. The new-gen Camry was launched last year with a complete design makeover, and its 2.5-litre strong hybrid engine is known to beat diesel efficiency in the global market. However, the low-end grunt and the powerful highway performance of a diesel-powered sedan can not be questioned, and this is exactly where Skoda India wants to drive a nail in.

With that said, the Superb diesel will be launched next year in limited numbers, and we hope that the brand keeps it under Rs 50 lakh to make it more accessible for diesel sedan lovers.
