- CLA Electric has crossed 1,000 confirmed orders in India
- Waiting periods have reached up to six months, with some deliveries extending to March 2027
- Mercedes-Benz says EV supply constraints, rather than demand, are limiting electric car sales
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric is off to a strong start in India, with the luxury sedan receiving more than 1,000 confirmed orders since its launch in April 2026. Strong demand has pushed waiting periods to as much as six months, with deliveries now extending into March 2027.
The response comes as Mercedes-Benz India records its best-ever January-September sales performance. The company retailed 15,190 vehicles during the first nine months of 2026, marking an 8 percent increase over the same period last year.
CLA Electric drives Mercedes’ EV growth
The CLA Electric has played an important role in Mercedes-Benz India’s electric vehicle push. The company’s EV sales increased by 16 percent year-on-year between January and September 2026.
However, Mercedes-Benz says supply remains the biggest hurdle. According to the company, EV penetration could have been 7-8 percentage points higher this year if adequate vehicle supply had been available.
Mercedes expects electric cars to account for 20-25 percent of its sales next year, provided supply improves.
The CLA Electric is currently available in India in two versions, with prices ranging from Rs 56.50 lakh to Rs 60.50 lakh ex-showroom.
Mercedes continues expanding its EV portfolio
The strong CLA Electric demand comes alongside a broader expansion of Mercedes-Benz’s electric range in India. The company has now opened bookings for the GLC Electric, which will be launched on November 4.
The GLC Electric will be locally assembled at Mercedes-Benz’s Chakan facility and will initially be offered in the 400 4Matic version. It gets a 94 kWh battery and a claimed WLTP range of 715 km.
Meanwhile, the company’s top-end portfolio continues to perform strongly. EQS Maybach SUV sales grew 68 percent during the first nine months of 2026, while Mercedes-AMG sales increased by 18 percent.
