JSW to launch the Chery Jaecoo J7 – What do we know so far?
JSW Motors will soon debut in India, separating its identity from the MG collaboration. While the latter will remain active, JSW Motors will launch the New Energy Vehicles (NEV), which are essentially going to be the rebadged Chery cars.
While the models like Jetour T2 PHEV, iCar V27, and the Jaecoo J5 have already been spotted testing in India, the latest spy shots reveal three production-spec units of the Jaecoo J7, a premium SUV that has recently become the best-selling car in the UK.
The J7 boasts a Range Rover Sport-esque design with its boxy proportions, a sloping roofline, a vertical front-end that has a vertical grille, square LED lights, and a big size. The J7 measures 4.5 metres in length, while offering a ground clearance of 210 mm. It rides on the dual-tone 19-inch rims, while the design elements like the retractable door handles give it a streamlined design.
On the inside, it packs a comfortable cabin for five adults, with leather upholstery and various cabin colour theme options. The dashboard features a vertical 14.8-inch 4K infotainment screen, wireless connectivity, wireless charging, a 540-degree camera, a dual-pane glass roof, an electric tail gate, and more.
However, the most interesting bit is its 1.6-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain. This powertrain is mated to an 18.3 kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a pure electric range of up to 90 km, while a full tank of fuel gives it a total range of more than 1,200 km.
The J7 is available with RWD and AWD options. The latter is equipped with a water wading capacity of up to 600 mm, and gets a departure angle of up to 29 degrees.
The J7 is positioned at a premium in the UK. It costs nearly Rs 49 lakh in the international market, and its competitors include the BMW X1, Hyundai Tucson, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. With that said, the J7 will be launched in India by JSW Motors in the coming months. It will possibly get priced in a similar range.
