Kia India to bring two new hybrids and one EV by 2030

Key highlights

  • Kia to bring two hybrids and one EV to India by 2030
  • Sorento hybrid SUV and Carnival hybrid MPV confirmed
  • Syros EV likely to arrive earlier as an affordable electric option

At its global investor event, Kia laid out a clear plan for India. More models, more electrification, and a stronger push into premium segments. Two hybrids and one EV are coming, and they will shape Kia’s next phase here.

Sorento hybrid

Let’s start with the big one. The Kia Sorento hybrid is finally on the cards for India. And this is not just another SUV. This sits above the Kia Seltos and brings three-row practicality into the mix. Expect a length of around 4.8 metres and a wheelbase close to 2.8 metres. That puts it right in the space where buyers want size, presence, and a bit of status.

Under the hood, Kia is likely to use a hybrid 1.5-litre petrol setup. The focus will be efficiency without giving up everyday usability. If priced around the Rs 30 lakh mark, this could go straight at the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and similar offerings.

Carnival hybrid

Globally, the Carnival hybrid uses a 1.6-litre turbo petrol paired with an electric motor. Combined output stands at a healthy 272hp and 367Nm.

For India, the exact setup is still under wraps. But if Kia brings something close to the global spec, it will make the Carnival far more appealing to buyers who want efficiency along with luxury.

And let’s be honest, a hybrid Carnival makes a lot more sense in city-heavy usage than a big diesel.

Syros EV

While the hybrids are a long-term play, the EV story starts sooner. The Kia Syros EV is expected to arrive much earlier and will likely be the most affordable EV in Kia’s lineup. It will sit below the Carens Clavis EV and target the sweet spot between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.

Underneath, it shares its platform with the Hyundai Inster EV. That means battery options around 42kWh to 49kWh and a claimed range going up to roughly 369km. Design-wise, expect it to mirror the ICE version with some EV-specific tweaks.

Bigger ambitions, bigger numbers

The brand plans to expand its lineup to 10 models in India. Out of these, 8 will be electrified in some form.

Dealer network will grow to 800 touchpoints. And the target is ambitious. Over 4 lakh annual sales and a 7.6 percent market share by 2030.
