Made-in-India Mercedes-Maybach GLS launched: Details
The made-in-India Maybach GLS has significantly reduced the pricing of the flagship Mercedes SUV. Earlier, the Maybach GLS was imported to India as a CBU or complete build unit, which attracted high import taxes, and hence it was priced at Rs 3.17 crore (ex-showroom).
With the new assembly facility now operational for the Maybach GLS in India, the car will now be imported as a CKD or a completely knocked down unit, which will be Rs 42 lakh cheaper than the previous price. Hence, the new starting price of the Maybach GLS has dropped to Rs 2.75 crore, which is a substantial drop for luxury buyers.
Although Mercedes has not changed the made-in-India Maybach GLS as compared to the previous CBU model. However, considering that it will now house local parts, the quality is yet to be tested by us.
Meanwhile, at the announcement event, Mercedes has also launched a Maybach GLS Celebration Edition, which is priced at Rs 4.10 crore (ex-showroom).
