Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced a major milestone for one of its most successful products. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has now crossed 3 million cumulative sales in India, cementing its position as the country’s most successful sedan.
In fact, the Dzire ended calendar year 2025 as India’s highest-selling passenger car, with more than 214,000 units sold during the year.
Four generations of steady evolution
The Dzire story began in 2008, when Maruti Suzuki introduced the sedan as a more premium alternative to the hatchback experience. Over time, the car evolved across four generations, each one bringing new technology and features to the segment.
The first generation focused on practicality and value while introducing features that were rare in the category at the time. Safety equipment like dual airbags, ABS and climate control helped the model stand out.
The second generation introduced the AGS automated manual transmission, which made automatic driving accessible to more buyers. Dual-tone interiors and improved comfort further strengthened its appeal.
The third generation added modern touches such as LED projector headlamps, the SmartPlay infotainment system and stylish alloy wheels, making the car feel more contemporary and premium.
Today, the fourth-generation Dzire continues that evolution with a sharper design and more technology.
Technology, efficiency and safety drive popularity
The latest Dzire builds on its reputation with a long list of features. The car offers an electric sunroof, a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera and Suzuki Connect telematics. These additions push the compact sedan firmly into modern territory.
Under the hood sits Maruti Suzuki’s new Z-Series engine, which focuses on efficiency and everyday usability. Fuel economy remains one of the car’s strongest points. The Dzire delivers 24.79 km/l in petrol manual form and 33.73 km/kg in S-CNG configuration, making it one of the most efficient sedans in the country.
Safety has also received serious attention. The sedan comes equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The car has also achieved 5-star safety ratings in both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP crash tests, giving buyers additional confidence.
For many Indian families, the Dzire represents a milestone purchase. It offers the comfort of a sedan while remaining affordable to own and maintain.
