What is the PM RAHAT cashless scheme?

The newly introduced RAHAT cashless scheme, aka Road Accident Victim Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment scheme, offers a cashless cover of the initial treatment of a road accident victim of up to Rs 1.50 lakh. This coverage can be availed up to 7 days from the date of the accident.

Moreover, this scheme will provide the stabilisation treatment for 24 hours for the non-threatening injuries and 48 hours for the life-threatening injuries. The RAHAT scheme has been linked to the 112 emergency dial services. Victims or the good Samaritans can call the 112 service and locate the nearest hospital, and call for an ambulance.

Moreover, the government will cover the treatment cost of the uninsured or ‘hit and run’ cases. This cost will be covered by the allocated budget by the government, and the sum will be reimbursed to the hospitals through the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund within 10 days.
