- Motorcycles customised for high speed response, highway patrol and urban policing
The Maharashtra Police has inducted 100 specially customised Bajaj Dominar 400 motorcycles into active duty, strengthening its two wheeler fleet across Pune City, Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune Rural. The move aims to improve response times, boost patrol efficiency and give officers the right hardware to deal with modern policing demands.
These motorcycles will operate on highways, arterial roads and dense urban pockets where quick mobility makes all the difference. The Dominar 400 has already proven itself in police fleets across multiple states. Pune is now the latest to put its trust in Bajaj’s flagship tourer.
The motorcycles come with police specific modifications. These include crash guards, luggage mounts, auxiliary lighting, sirens and communication equipment. The setup allows officers to carry essential gear without compromising balance or performance. Visibility has also received attention, with high contrast police livery designed to stand out in traffic and at night.
Under the bodywork sits the familiar 373 cc liquid cooled engine. It produces 40 PS and 35 Nm. Those numbers matter when officers need sustained high speed cruising on highways or quick bursts of acceleration in urban chases. The bike’s long wheelbase and stable chassis help maintain control even at triple digit speeds. Dual channel ABS adds a safety net during emergency braking.
This induction also reflects a shift in how police fleets are evolving. Scooters handle tight lanes well. Smaller bikes manage routine patrols. But when speed, reach and authority matter, larger motorcycles step in. The Dominar fills that gap neatly without drifting into expensive import territory.
For Bajaj Auto, this deployment strengthens the Dominar’s reputation as a serious workhorse. It is a motorcycle that has crossed the Ladakh test, the highway tourer test and now the law enforcement test. Few bikes can claim that range without sounding like marketing fluff.
