Triumph Speed T4 spied testing – 350cc engine launch soon

Bajaj had previously announced that it would soon introduce a new downsized 350cc Triumph motorcycle model range based on the 400cc models. The downsizing comes after the new GST 2.0 rates have hit the sales and profit margins substantially.

A latest test mule of the Speed T4 was spotted near Pune outskirts, hinting that the brand is doing the final rounds of the road testing phase of this new engine. The 350cc engine is essentially going to be a downsized version of the 400cc mill.

The test motorcycle looks exactly the same as the 400cc Speed T4. However, a smaller capacity engine is what we think is being tested here. Since it makes no sense in testing an already available model, and that too on the verge of being discontinued.

So, why 350cc downsizing? As per the new GST 2.0 rules, all two-wheelers above 350cc are now subject to 40% GST, as opposed to 18% earlier. This has led to a significant downfall in sales as most brands had to increase the prices of their bigger models to keep the cost-benefit margins intact.

Bajaj, on the other hand, had retained the prices and absorbed the impact. But, this can not be done in the long run, hence a downsized lineup is the solution that Bajaj came up with. The new 350cc models will replicate the 400cc models, but the colours and branding could be changed marginally.

Moreover, online reports hint that the 400cc range will also remain available alongside the 350cc models. Bajaj will let the customers decide the future of the 400cc models.

The first 350cc Triumph motorcycle will launch next month.
