Triumph Tracker 400 to launch in India with a 350cc engine?
As per the latest online rumours, Triumph is expected to bring the Tracker 400 to India soon, but with a twist. The twist is that it is likely to get a toned-down 400cc version, which is likely the upcoming 350cc platform that will replace the current 400cc bikes like the Speed 400, Scrambler 400X, etc.
So, why not the Tracker 400 itself? Why the new engine? Well, not long ago, the Indian government imposed the revised GST 2.0 structure that led to a substantial price hike for the two-wheelers with engine capacity above 350cc. Hence, Bajaj decided to trim the 400cc engine under the 350cc mark to use the big tax benefits.
This will not only lower the prices of the 400cc range substantially, but also help boost the mass volume sales of Triumph bikes in this segment, which is ruled by the Royal Enfield’s J-series bikes like the Bullet 350 and the Classic 350.
While the new 350cc platform will definitely be launched in the future, its exact timeline is unknown for now. Our sources say that the first bike with this platform is likely to be ‘Bonneville 350’, which shall be followed by the other models, including the Tracker 350.
