MG Hybrid SUV – What do we know so far?
The new JSW MG Hybrid SUV, which will be a cosmetically tweaked Wuling Starlight 560, was recently spotted testing in complete camouflage alongside the MG Hector. The latest spy shots reveal that it will be substantially bigger than the Hector.
While we can assess the design silhouette of this unnamed hybrid SUV by looking at the similarities with the Starlight 560, it will possess slight changes to the bumper, grille, and alloy wheels to differentiate it from the Starlight 560.
Overall, it will possess a boxy look with conventional SUV styling on the front, while the rear will bear an MPV-ish design. In terms of dimensions, it will be 4.7 metres in length, with a 2.8 metres wheelbase, offering a 7-seater three-row layout on the inside with a spacious cabin.
However, the talking point will remain its 1.5-litre turbo plug-in hybrid engine that develops 197 bhp and 230 Nm. It is paired to a 20.5 kWh battery pack that powers a front-axle-mounted motor. This setup offers a maximum range of up to 1,100 km, while the pure electric range stands at 100 km.
The exact launch timeline of the new hybrid SUV is still unknown, but it is suspected to be introduced in the second half of this year. Its main competition will be the new Mahindra XUV 7XO, and it will be priced in a similar ballpark as the Mahindra rival.
