2027 Kia Sonet spotted in South Korea with new alloy wheels and LED tail-lamps

Key highlights

  • The next-generation Kia Sonet has been spotted testing in South Korea ahead of its expected 2027 debut.
  • Spy shots point to revised styling, new alloy wheels and redesigned rear lighting.
  • A new platform and a possible strong-hybrid powertrain are among the expected changes, though several details remain unconfirmed.

Kia is working on an all-new generation of the Sonet, and fresh spy shots from South Korea offer another look at the upcoming compact SUV. Internally codenamed QY2E, the second-generation model is expected to arrive in 2027, bringing substantial design and technology updates to a product that has been on sale in India since 2020.

The latest images reveal parts of the side and rear profiles, although heavy camouflage continues to conceal several details. The new Sonet has also been spotted testing in India, suggesting that development is progressing in both markets.

What do the spy shots reveal?

The side profile appears to feature revised window frames, a reworked C-pillar, sharper dual-tone ORVMs and squared-off wheel arches. The alloy wheels have a new, sportier design, although their size remains unconfirmed.

At the rear, the test vehicle appears to feature redesigned tail-lamps that could connect across the tailgate. The boot lid and rear bumper are also expected to receive revisions.

The front design remains largely hidden. However, the new Sonet is expected to adopt a taller grille, vertically arranged LED headlamps and Kia’s Star Map-style LED daytime running lights, bringing it closer to the design language seen on newer models such as the EV3 and EV9. These details are expectations rather than confirmed production specifications.

New platform and upgraded cabin expected

The next-generation Sonet is expected to move to Kia’s newer K1 platform, which also underpins the Syros. The change could help improve cabin packaging, safety and technology integration.

Inside, the SUV could get a curved panoramic display combining two 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Other possible upgrades include a revised climate-control panel, improved upholstery and additional convenience features.

A more advanced Level 2 ADAS suite is also expected, upgrading from the current model’s Level 1 system. Kia has not confirmed the final equipment list.

Hybrid powertrain could arrive later

The new Sonet is expected to retain the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines at launch. A strong-hybrid option is reportedly planned for a later stage, potentially around 2029, but Kia has not officially confirmed its specifications or launch timeline.
