VinFast is dead on arrival in India – Here’s why

VinFast began operations in India not long ago. The Vietnamese brand made its Indian debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 in January and showcased a plethora of EVs, bluffing Indian customers with big dreams and promising vehicles.

However, the reality seems to be the opposite of what we witnessed at the expo. The brand is reported to be witnessing an extremely poor response in India. In fact, it has not even begun operating in the tier-1 cities properly, which was the first course of the promised action during the launch.

With its VF6 and VF7 models on offer, even the aggressive pricing strategy has not been able to help the brand identity formation among Indian customers. The situation seems to be so bad that the brand is keeping away from revealing the sales figures, which is a big red flag to potential customers.

And it is not only the Indian market where the brand is failing miserably, but it has been reporting consistent losses internationally. The EV maker, which is backed by a big financial stick, is lagging in product strategy and correct operational methods.

Moreover, the EVs on offer are not very promising either. The VF7, which happens to be the current flagship model in India, lacks essential features and a luxury quotient, which its rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric offer in a far better way.

As for the crux, the brand’s future plans for the Indian market are also unknown. Even the current customers are suspected to undergo turmoil with the spare parts availability in the future – and not to mention the non-existent after sales service.
