Tata Motors Tamil Nadu facility comes into action – Details
Last week, Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO of Tata Motors, announced that all production facilities of the company are operating at maximum, and it needs to bring the Tamil Nadu-based facility into action soon. Now, the brand has inaugurated the operations at Panapakkam, Ranipet, Tamil Nadu facility, as the first Range Rover Evoque car rolled out of the assembly line.
Tata’s main aim is to use this production plant to rationalise the production of other Range Rover models, which are currently assembled in Pune. These models include the Evoque, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover SV, and Discovery Sport. Meanwhile, the brand imports the Defender and Discovery models from Slovakia.
This production facility will also form the base for the ‘next-gen’ vehicles, which likely include the production of the Avinya EV range. Tata has already announced that the first Avinya model will be introduced later this year. Hence, the inauguration of this facility serves as an important step.
Meanwhile, the maximum annual capacity of this plant is rated up to 2,50,000 units, a target that is scheduled to be achieved in the next 5-7 years. This will likely serve as the assembly point for the JLR models, which are also likely to be exported from India via this assembly facility. Tata will spend 9,000 crores in this facility, and the brand claims to generate over 5,000 jobs in the area.
