Toyota has begun the road testing of the next-gen Fortuner SUV. The first-ever test mule was spied internationally, which gives a glimpse of the design details. Read everything to know about it below.

What to expect from the next-gen 2027 Toyota Fortuner?
The third-gen Fortuner test mule has been recently spotted in Thailand with complete camouflage. The first-ever sighting of the next-gen Fortuner shows that the new SUV will become sharper, modern, and futuristic.
It is likely to be based on the redesigned current IMV platform, which recently debuted on the new-gen Toyota Hilux internationally. This architecture has been designed to accommodate petrol, diesel, EV, hydrogen fuel cell, and PHEV powertrains.
While there is only one spy shot present, the rear design seen in the photo has a more squared-off profile with a roof-integrated spoiler and sharp LED lights. The boot, windshield, and rear-quarter panel are all redesigned, indicating a complete makeover.
Dimensionally, we suspect that it will be bigger than the current model, but not significantly. On the inside, the new interiors will take inspiration from the new-gen Hilux, which gets an all-new design, 12.3-inch touchscreen, ambient lighting, ADAS, wireless charging, and other modern features.
Powering the new-gen Fortuner are likely to be the 2.8-litre turbo diesel, a 2.7-litre petrol engine, and a 2.8-litre turbo diesel with a 48V mild-hybrid tech. Internationally, a PHEV version is also on the cards.
As of now, not much is known about its launch timeline. But, we can safely say that the road testing phase has begun, which indicates that the product is nearing its production stage. Online reports hint that the new Fortuner will be launched by late 2026 globally, and 2027 in India.
