Indian MotoGP comeback soon – What do we know so far?
Ever since the last Bharat GP was concluded, Jaiprakash Associates Ltd., aka Jaypee Group, has been debt-ridden. While the debut is not directly associated with the MotoGP, the company owns the Buddh International Circuit, which happens to be the country’s only international-level motorsport track.
But it seems that the bad days will soon be over for BIC. AVW Group, led by former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding or MoU with the UP government to facilitate the MotoGP and Asia Road Racing Championship at BIC. Mind you, Adani Group is already in the process of taking over the Jaiprakash Associates Ltd., which will allow them to purchase BIC.
Now this is a big development since Karan Adani, son of Gautam Adani, owner of Adani Group, had recently announced that he is actively working on bringing the motorsport event back to India as he is ‘personally engaged’ in the development of it. On the other hand, Liberty Media, the new owner of MotoGP, is planning to expand the viewership of the motorsport event globally to engage more profits.
With that said, we still think that a complete takeover by Adani Group will help in improving the dying motorsport culture in India since BIC will host the new championships like ARRC and MotoGP. More details regarding the Indian MotoGP are likely to surface in the coming weeks.
