What to expect from the Bajaj 350cc engine?
As leaked online, the upcoming engine is going to be a 349.13cc unit, which will replace the current 399cc engine on the Dominar 400 and the Pulsar NS400Z. This engine has been downsized by 24cc by making the stroke shorter, but keeping the bore the same as before.
As a result, the power and torque have dropped by 2.4 PS and 1.8 Nm, respectively. The new 350cc engine makes 40.6 PS and 33.2 Nm, and it will be paired with the same 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch, as earlier.
With that said, this engine is likely to offer a better low-speed throttle response and a stronger mid-range performance, ideal for everyday use. The fuel efficiency of the smaller engine is also likely to be more than that of the 399cc engine.
The main reason behind this downsizing is the GST 2.0 rule, which has hiked the tax on the 350cc and above two-wheelers from 18% to 40%. By downsizing, the brand will be able to cut the prices significantly, while keeping the engine performance nearly similar.
The new 350cc engine is likely to be launched in the coming weeks.
