Triumph Scrambler 400 X and 400 XC get a 350cc engine
The newly launched Scrambler 400 X and 400 XC models now get the brand new 350cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor. This engine is a downsized version of the outgoing 400cc engine, and it has been specifically developed to take advantage of the new GST 2.0 tax slab.
As per the GST 2.0 taxation, two-wheelers above 350cc are subject to 40% GST. Hence, Triumph has reduced the stroke of the 400cc engine from 64mm to 56.1mm and redesigned the crankshaft and the combustion chamber to downsize it below 350cc.
However, despite downsizing, the new 350cc engine is still powerful and offers the same linear power delivery and a flat torque curve, which was the highlight of the 400cc engine. The total output on both models is rated at 37 PS and 32 Nm, while the 6-speed gearbox and the slipper-assist clutch remain unaltered.
Triumph has not changed the mechanical settings of the bike, and the chassis is also untouched. Similarly, the visual profile, the equipment list, and the overall quality remain as they are.
With that said, the new Scrambler 400 X is now priced at Rs 2,59,241, while the Scrambler 400 XC is priced at Rs 2,89,440, both ex-showroom, Delhi. The Scrambler 400 X is now Rs 21,371 cheaper than the 400cc model, while the Scrambler 400 XC is now Rs 17,812 cheaper.
Triumph has not changed the branding from 400 to 350 as it align with the global product strategy of the brand.
