Key highlights
- Yamaha Aerox E launched at Rs 2.81 lakh
- Powered by a 9.7 kW electric motor, 117 km range, 95.5 km/h top speed
- It is the second electric scooter of the brand in India
Yamaha has launched its second electric scooter in India. The new Aerox E is based on the same design as the Aerox 155, but it packs an electric powertrain with promising performance.
Yamaha Aerox E: Everything to know
In terms of styling, the Aerox E looks almost identical to its ICE version. The sharp front apron with dual LED headlights, a sporty top cowl, sharp side panels, and an upright rear section with a big seat make it look similar to the Aerox 155.
However, the noticeable difference is the use of the blue/green coloured graphics and a white colour option, which give it more “electric” and “green” vibes. The features are also similar to the Aerox 155, as it comes equipped with LED lights, a coloured TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity, three riding modes (Eco, Standard, and Power), and a power boost mode to give it an immediate boost from standstill.
Powering the electric Aerox E is a 9.7 kW electric motor. This setup offers a claimed range of up to 117 km on full charge, and a top speed of up to 95.5 km/h. Additionally, the Aerox E comes with twin 1.5 kWh battery packs, which are removable. This makes charging quick, as one can just swap the electric batteries at a battery swapping station and immediately get a fully charged setup.
Why is it ‘Dead on Arrival’?
The sharp price point is going to be an immediate turn-off for new buyers. Yamaha has positioned the Aerox E incorrectly in our opinion. Rs 2.81 lakh, and that too ex-showroom, not only makes it low on value-for-money, but also opens other options for buyers.
It appears that Yamaha India has not learnt from the EC-06 electric scooter’s failure. The Aerox E seems to follow the same path if the price is not reduced in the future.
