2026 Toyota Hilux: Everything to know about it

The new-generation Hilux was revealed in international markets last year. However, Toyota is soon going to bring it to India. The brand’s latest video teaser shows the yellow-coloured Hilux undergoing some serious off-roading. Moreover, the teaser gives us a glimpse of its exterior design bits, which are similar to the global model.

Mind you, the new-gen Hilux is based on the current model’s IMV platform. The ladder-frame chassis remains mostly unaltered, and so will be the powertrains, which include the robust and torque-rich 2.8-litre turbo diesel unit. This engine is most likely going to be offered with the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, as available on the current Hilux.

Coming to the important changes, the new-gen Hilux will offer a completely new design, which is somewhat inspired by Toyota’s new models like the RAV4 Hybrid. The front now gets a protruding meshed grille in the bumper, new LED headlights, new rugged bumpers, new roll bars, new body cladding, and new alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres. Dimensionally, it will remain mostly identical to the current model. At the back, it will offer a set of new vertical LED taillights and Toyota lettering on the tailgate.

Step inside, and the biggest change awaits. The new-gen Hilux will get a dashboard and interior that is inspired by the new Land Cruiser Prado. The new three-spoke steering wheel, dual digital screens – one for infotainment and one for the driver console- and features like ventilated front seats, wireless charging, drive modes, electronic parking brake, etc, will offer a more plush and comfortable pickup truck experience.

We believe most buyers will be attracted to its new interior design itself. The current model feels a bit outdated in terms of design and features, which the new Hilux will iron out. Toyota is also likely to add the ADAS safety features on the new Hilux, including the 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, front collision alert, etc.

The new Hilux will be officially revealed in India on July 28. We believe that it will be priced at least Rs 1-2 lakh more than the current model; thanks to the new features.
