BMW X1 LWB bookings open ahead of August 21 launch

Key highlights

  • Pre-launch bookings for the BMW X1 LWB open from August 10
  • Long-wheelbase SUV will be locally produced at BMW’s Chennai plant
  • India launch confirmed for August 21, 2026

BMW has opened pre-launch bookings for the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India. The bookings went live on August 10 and can be made through BMW’s authorised dealership network across the country. Customers can also register their interest through the BMW India website.

The X1 LWB will be officially launched in India on August 21, 2026. BMW has also confirmed that the SUV will be locally produced at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai, rather than being brought in as a fully imported model.

More space inside

BMW is positioning the X1 LWB as a more spacious alternative in the luxury compact SUV segment. The company claims it will be the longest and most spacious car in its segment, with the additional length primarily aimed at improving rear-seat room.

This is an important move for the X1 in India. While the standard X1 has always been positioned as BMW’s entry point into the SUV range, the LWB version is clearly being tailored to buyers who want more room for passengers without moving up to a significantly larger and more expensive SUV.

BMW says the new X1 LWB combines increased space and comfort with technology and the brand’s familiar driving characteristics. The company is also highlighting its more commanding road presence as part of the new model’s appeal.

Made in India

Local production should also help BMW position the X1 LWB more competitively when pricing is announced.

For now, however, BMW has not revealed the price, engine options or detailed specifications of the India-spec X1 LWB. Those details are expected to be announced closer to the launch. The X1 LWB will likely get only the 1.5L petrol motor and the diesel will be available on the standard X1.

The SUV can already be booked through BMW’s authorised dealer network, while prospective buyers can also register their interest online.
