Key highlights
- BMW F 650 GS test mule spotted
- Likely to share powertrain basics with the F 450 GS
- Features a steel bridge frame like the F 900 GS
Fresh spy shots of an unnamed motorcycle have surfaced online, which looks like a new middleweight BMW ADV bike, possibly the upcoming F 650 GS. The first-ever shots of this model have revealed interesting details, including its chassis, powertrain, and hardware.
The test bike is seen with unfinished bodywork that is covered on the upper half. However, the stance of the bike clearly shows that it is a middleweight ADV. Further, the long-travel suspension, 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked rims, dual disc brakes at the front, and a large upswept two-in-one exhaust solidify that this one is a 650cc or something of a similar stature.
Is it the BMW F 650 GS?
Now we can not confirm whether it is a 650cc or less, but this engine looks somewhat identical to the recently launched F 450 GS. Moreover, the bike is a mix of the F 450 GS and the F 900 GS, as it features the steel bridge frame similar to the latter.
Meanwhile, the X-shaped projector headlight is reminiscent of the F 1300 GS, while the slimmer bodywork is more in line with the F 900 GS. Currently, BMW does not have a middleweight ADV. The only option is the F 450 GS, which is not for everyone’s liking and lacks the middleweight touring experience.
With that said, the bodywork is still unfinished, and this work-in-progress is likely to take final shape next year. We suspect that BMW could reveal it at the EICMA 2027. Meanwhile, the brand is already producing its F 450 GS with TVS, and TVS also makes the Norton Atlas, which shares a bigger version of the same engine. Hence, it could be possible that this new 650cc or whatever middleweight capacity, engine could also be produced in India.
With that said, the production version of this bike could be launched by 2028. We can safely say that it will also be launched in India subsequent to the global launch.
