Hyundai Motor India has partnered with Jio-bp to integrate their respective electric vehicle charging networks, giving EV users access to a much larger public charging ecosystem through a single platform.
With the integration of the Jio-bp pulse network, Hyundai’s charging ecosystem now provides access to more than 37,000 charging points across India, up from the 30,000-plus points previously available through the myHyundai app.
Interestingly, the network isn’t restricted to Hyundai EV owners. The company says EV users irrespective of vehicle brand can use the myHyundai app to discover and access charging points available on its charging network.
7,000+ chargers added
Jio-bp brings more than 7,000 active charging points spread across 300-plus cities to the partnership. A significant number of these chargers are located along major national highways, which should make the expanded network particularly useful for EV owners undertaking longer journeys.
The Jio-bp pulse network also includes DC fast chargers ranging from 60kW to 480kW. This means compatible EVs can potentially make use of considerably higher charging speeds, depending on their own maximum charging capability.
Reliability is another area Jio-bp is highlighting. The company claims an industry-leading 96% network uptime, addressing one of the more frustrating aspects of public EV charging.
Hyundai currently has 183 operational proprietary DC fast-charging stations in India. The company plans to expand this network significantly, targeting 600 stations by 2030.
Charging anxiety replaces range anxiety
Hyundai says the partnership comes at a time when EV customers’ concerns are gradually shifting from range anxiety to charging anxiety. In other words, having a 500 km-plus range is only useful if the driver knows where the next charger is and, more importantly, whether it will actually work when they get there.
The integration with Jio-bp is intended to simplify this experience by allowing users to discover and access a wider charging network through the myHyundai app.
Hyundai and Jio-bp also say they will explore customer-centric offers in the future.
