Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-anticipated Baleno facelift in India with a starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom). While the new facelift does not bring any major updates to its design, it does offer an all-new powertrain sourced from the Swift.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift: Everything to know before buying it
The new Baleno facelift is here with subtle changes and a new heart. Speaking of its biggest change, the new Baleno facelift now uses a 1.2-litre Z12E three-cylinder petrol engine sourced from the Swift. This unit replaces the outgoing 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine that made 90 bhp and 113 Nm. The new engine makes 83 bhp and 112 Nm, and it is paired with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
The new engine is supposed to offer better fuel efficiency and low-end torque. As per the official claim, the manual version delivers 23.80 km/l, while the AMT delivers up to 24.77 km/l. Meanwhile, the Baleno facelift also gets a CNG engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox, which delivers 33.61 km/kg.
However, as opposed to a popular rumour, Maruti has not introduced an automatic transmission with the CNG powertrain. Earlier, reports hinted that an AMT gearbox is likely to be offered with the CNG engine option. Maruti has confirmed that it is under development and is likely to debut in the future on models like the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno as well.
Speaking of the exterior changes, the new Baleno is almost identical to the outgoing version. The only big change is the new fascia, which gets a new nose with a three-slat chrome grille design, new LED foglight housings, and a new front bumper. The Suzuki logo has been shifted up, while the LED projector headlights have been redesigned as well. The side and rear profile see no changes.
On the inside, the cabin design is also largely unaltered. The only additions come in the form of a wireless phone charging pad with cooling, front seats with ventilation, a new auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror design, and a Clarion sound system on the range-topping variants.
A big step up has come in the form of new safety features. It now gets Level 2 ADAS tech, which includes a 360-degree surround view, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and more.
Maruti has yet to release the detailed price list of the new Baleno facelift. We are also hopeful that it will get a CNG with AMT gearbox in the coming months.
