2026 Mahindra Thar facelift teased ahead of September 22 launch

Key highlights

  • Mahindra has officially teased the updated three-door Thar ahead of its September 22 launch
  • Teaser reveals a revised grille and fresh alloy wheel design
  • Thar Roxx-inspired styling and additional cabin features are expected

Mahindra has released the first official teasers of the 2026 Thar facelift, confirming that the updated three-door SUV will make its debut on September 22, 2026. The teasers offer only limited glimpses of the SUV, with the focus on its grille and off-road character.

What to expect

The first teaser shows a close-up of the front grille, featuring vertical openings with mesh inserts and Mahindra lettering above it. Another teaser highlights the Thar in an off-road setting. The company has used the tagline “An icon, now more iconic” for the update.

While the teasers do not reveal the entire SUV, previous spy shots provide a clearer indication of what is expected. The Thar is likely to receive a revised front fascia with circular projector LED headlamps and C-shaped DRLs, along with a redesigned bumper and updated alloy wheels. The rear could also get revised tail-lamps and bumper detailing.

The overall three-door silhouette is expected to remain unchanged. The SUV will continue with its upright stance, tailgate-mounted spare wheel and familiar proportions. The styling updates are expected to bring the Thar visually closer to the larger Thar Roxx.

Interior

The cabin could see more substantial changes. Reports based on test mules suggest additions such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and automatic climate control. A 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror have also been reported as possibilities, although Mahindra has not confirmed these features yet.

The existing 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 2.2-litre diesel engines are expected to continue. The current transmission combinations, including six-speed manual and automatic options, are also expected to remain.

The current Thar is priced between Rs 10.32 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom. Prices for the facelift will be announced at launch on September 22.
