Maruti Suzuki has expanded its S-CNG portfolio with the introduction of automatic CNG versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. The new models combine the convenience of an automated manual transmission with the running-cost benefits of CNG, marking the company’s latest step under its Auto Green Mission.
Powertrain
All three models use Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing and Idle Start Stop technology. In CNG mode, the engine produces 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm, while petrol mode delivers 82.93 PS and 112.4 Nm. The engine is paired with a five-speed Auto Gear Shift, or AMT.

The Dzire S-CNG AMT is the headline model of the new range, with a claimed efficiency of 36.47km/kg. Maruti Suzuki says this makes it India’s most fuel-efficient sedan, based on JATO Dynamics certification dated September 18, 2026.
CNG features
All three models use a 55-litre CNG tank, measured by water-filling capacity, alongside a 37-litre petrol tank. The S-CNG system features an intelligent injection system, stainless steel pipes and joints, integrated wiring and a microswitch that prevents the engine from starting during CNG refuelling. Idle Start Stop technology is also incorporated to reduce fuel consumption in heavy traffic.
The introduction is significant for buyers who want the convenience of two-pedal driving without moving away from CNG. Maruti Suzuki says S-CNG sales increased 58% year-on-year during the first quarter, while July recorded its highest-ever monthly S-CNG sales at 83,000 units.
The automatic S-CNG range addresses makes Maruti Suzuki the second OEM to introduce the tech after Tata Motors.
