Tata.ev has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to the Curvv.ev, giving buyers the option to separate the cost of the battery from the vehicle purchase. The move brings the electric SUV coupe into the company’s BaaS portfolio, alongside the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev.
Curvv.ev at a lower entry price with BaaS
For the Curvv.ev, Tata.ev lists a starting regular price of Rs 17.19 lakh. With BaaS, the starting vehicle price falls to Rs 10.99 lakh, although the battery is financed separately.
The Curvv.ev listed in the BaaS table uses a 55 kWh battery, with the battery financing and usage cost set at Rs 5 per km. Tata.ev says the quoted price applies to the entry trim and is calculated assuming 60 km of daily usage. Charging costs are additional. The Curvv.ev 55 currently has an ARAI-certified range of 585 km, while Tata’s own published figures list a real-world C75 range of around 400-425 km.
What does the BaaS plan actually mean?
Instead of paying for the complete EV upfront, customers opting for BaaS take separate loans for the vehicle and battery. The battery financing terms can vary based on the battery size, down payment and selected tenure.
The Rs 5 per km figure is therefore not a charging cost or a conventional running cost. It represents the battery financing and usage component of the BaaS arrangement. Charging, maintenance and repairs are not included in this amount.
Tata.ev says multiple financiers are part of the programme, with approval and applicable terms determined by the respective financiers. Buyers can still choose conventional ownership and purchase the Curvv.ev along with its battery.
Final thoughts
The BaaS option changes the Curvv.ev’s headline price quite dramatically, taking the entry point below Rs 11 lakh. But the lower upfront figure comes with a separate battery financing component, so buyers will need to consider both payments, along with charging expenses.
