BYD’s Denza luxury EV brand officially confirms India entry

Key highlights

  • Denza has officially announced its India entry and is expected to launch by the end of 2026.
  • The Z9 GT and D9 will spearhead the brand’s India debut, positioned above Rs 80 lakh.
  • Both models are expected to arrive as completely built units and will likely have dedicated Denza outlets.

BYD is taking its India ambitions further with the official arrival of Denza, its luxury and performance-focused brand. Denza India has announced its entry through its social media channels, confirming that the brand is “arriving soon” with a focus on premium electric vehicles.

Denza will sit above BYD’s existing portfolio in India, with its products expected to occupy the Rs 80 lakh-plus segment. The brand was originally established in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes exited completely in 2024, leaving BYD as the sole owner.

For India, Denza is expected to begin operations with two very different products.

Denza Z9 GT

The Denza Z9 GT is a four-door shooting brake and is likely to be the brand’s technology showcase. Its India-spec version is expected to use a 122.5 kWh battery powering three electric motors, producing a staggering 1,156 hp.

The all-wheel-drive EV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a claimed 2.7 seconds and has a 270 kmph top speed. Its WLTP range is rated at 600 km, while its headline charging capability is up to 1,500 kW.

The Z9 GT also gets rear-wheel steering, including features such as sideways “crab walk” and a 360-degree turning function. A five-screen cabin, Level 2+ ADAS, Devialet audio and massaging front seats underline its luxury positioning. Prices are expected to be around Rs 1.2-1.5 crore.

Denza D9

The Denza D9 will take a more comfort-focused approach. The large electric MPV is expected to use a 103 kWh battery and a front-mounted motor producing 313 hp and 360 Nm. Its claimed WLTP range stands at 520 km, with DC charging up to 200 kW.

A 2+2+3 seating layout gives the second row captain’s chairs with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functions. Three-zone climate control, leather upholstery and a Dynaudio sound system further strengthen its executive MPV credentials.

The D9 is expected to cost around Rs 90 lakh, putting it between the MG M9 and Toyota Vellfire.
