BMW has expanded its high-performance portfolio in India with the arrival of the M3 Competition and M5 Touring, both offered exclusively in special 100 Jahre Nurburgring editions. Bookings are now open, although BMW has not announced how many units will be allocated to India.
The special editions commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Nurburgring, the famous German circuit that has played a major role in motorsport and performance-car development.
Nurburgring-inspired styling
The special editions get an exclusive Nurburgring Green paint finish, along with decals depicting the circuit layout and ‘100 Year’ graphics. The wheels are finished in black with contrasting green accents.
Inside, BMW has gone with a predominantly black theme, complemented by green and white contrast stitching. Nurburgring circuit graphics are embroidered into the headrests, while a commemorative plaque is placed on the centre console.
Powertrains
The arrival of the M5 Touring is particularly significant as it becomes BMW India’s first estate model. It uses the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain as the M5 sedan, producing 727 hp and 1,000 Nm.
Power is sent through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels. BMW claims a 0-100 kmph time of 3.6 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 kmph. The optional M Driver’s Package raises this to 305 kmph. The Touring also offers up to 67 km of WLTP-rated electric-only range.
M3 Competition joins the line-up
The M3 Competition xDrive brings the four-door M3 to India for the first time. Its 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six produces 530 hp and 650 Nm, with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.5 seconds, while top speed is limited to 250 kmph, or 290 kmph with the M Driver’s Package.
BMW is also offering the 100 Jahre Nürburgring editions of the M5 sedan, M2 xDrive and M4 Competition in India.
