- Mahindra Thar EV test mule spotted
- Looks are reminiscent of the Vision T concept
- Production version is likely to launch by 2027 end
After showcasing the Vision T concept SUV last year, which was deemed the electric version of Thar, Mahindra has now hit the road with its test mules. The first-ever spy images of this upcoming electric SUV have surfaced online, showing the design details, size, and expected hardware that could be used on the production model.
Mahindra Thar EV: What do we know so far?

As seen in the spy images, the camouflaged test mule was spotted in city traffic. The first thing that immediately grabs attention is the size of the EV. Since it will be a production version of the Vision T, the proportions and dimensions are similar to the concept version shown by Mahindra last year.
The fascia is what grabs the most eyeballs, as it is most identical to the Vision T concept. The EV features round headlights, which are still under development, a unique grille with vertical slats that is divided into two halves, a rugged bumper with side-mounted LED DRLs like the Thar ICE, and wide wheel arches.

The side profile is formed of squared-off elements, a big greenhouse, conventional door handles, and new alloy wheels. At the rear, the test car had a vertical boot design, vertical lights that are still under development, a short overhang, and a tall profile similar to the concept version. One thing similar to the ICE Thar is the big protruding mirrors.
The spy shots also show a faint glimpse of the interior. On the inside, the test mule was spotted with a digital driver screen with a vertical layout and a new UI. It also appears to have a new three-spoke steering wheel with rotary dial and physical buttons that Mahindra had patented in the recent past.
The concept version had a vertical infotainment screen and a new centre console design. A similar design was recently revealed for the upcoming Lifestyler pickup truck. We believe that the electric Thar could use similar design elements.

As of now, there are no details available about the powertrain. Since it is expected to bear the ‘Thar’ moniker, a 4WD system will definitely be on offer. Meanwhile, the real-world range could exceed 400 km on the range-topping variants.
Mahindra is yet to disclose the launch date of the Thar EV. We suspect that it could be introduced by the end of next year or early 2028. However, a production version will not be on sale before 2028.
