Renault is preparing to bring its strong-hybrid technology to India with the new Duster E-Tech 160. The SUV has achieved an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 29 kmpl, positioning it as an alternative for buyers who want diesel-like efficiency without opting for a diesel powertrain. Bookings have opened for Rs 21,000 through Renault India’s website and authorised dealerships.
The full reveal and official market debut are scheduled for October 17, 2026. The Duster Strong Hybrid will be the first Renault E-Tech model introduced in India under the company’s futuREady roadmap.
Strong-hybrid powertrain
The Duster E-Tech 160 combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery, producing a combined output of 160 PS. An intelligent multi-mode transmission manages the petrol engine and electric motors according to driving conditions.
The system can drive on electric power under suitable conditions, recover energy during braking and deceleration, and switch between electric and combustion power. The battery charges while driving, so there is no need to plug the SUV into an external charger. Renault says the setup is designed to balance performance with fuel efficiency while keeping transitions between operating modes smooth.
A potential alternative to diesel SUVs
Renault is pitching the strong hybrid towards customers who value both performance and fuel efficiency. With 160 PS and a claimed 29 kmpl, the Duster aims to address two traditional strengths of diesel SUVs without requiring owners to manage external charging.
However, the certified mileage figure alone will not determine how it performs in everyday use. Real-world efficiency will depend on traffic, driving conditions and how frequently the hybrid system can operate on electric power.
Price and full specifications awaited
Renault has not announced the price of the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 yet. More details are expected at its India debut on October 17. The booking amount is Rs 21,000, and customers can reserve the SUV online or through authorised dealerships.
