JSW Combat SUV: Everything we know so far about it
The Combat SUV will be JSW Motors’ first bet in the Indian automotive market. The brand will become an independent car manufacturer, and the Jetour T2 has been finalised as its first launch for the Indian market.
JSW has partnered with Chery Automobile, a Chinese auto giant, which is providing the newly formed company with its various models. Following the Combat, JSW Motors will launch the iCar V23 electric SUV, while more models are in the pipeline.
Speaking of the Combat SUV, it is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Jetour T2 PHEV. The latter is a popular offering in the Middle East and Chinese markets, where users report its luxurious interior and efficient performance as the main USPs of the car.
JSW Motors will position the Combat among the premium mid-size three-row SUVs in India. The following models are likely to be more affordable, depending on the market shift.
The global-spec T2 is based on a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that is paired with an 18.4 kWh battery. This setup is mated to a 3-speed DHT (dedicated hybrid transmission), and it is offered in FWD and AWD guise. The T2 PHEV packs 360 bhp and 610 Nm of power and torque, while its NEDC-claimed electric range is up to 90 km. With this hybrid setup, the Jetour T2 PHEV can deliver up to 1,100 km of range.
Speaking of the exterior design, the Combat SUV will be mostly identical to the T2, save for the rebadging and probably exclusive paint options. Meanwhile, the SUV will offer a big, boxy silhouette with modern design cues like the squared-off LED headlights, vertical LED taillights, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, flared wheel arches, 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, etc.
On the inside, the global-spec Jetour T2 PHEV packs a luxurious and spacious cabin with studio seats and a commanding driving position. The complete cabin is loaded with high-quality materials, high-grade fit and finish, and modern features like the augmented reality HUD, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver screen, wireless charging with ventilation, etc.
More details about the Indian-spec JSW Combat will be revealed in the coming weeks. Until then, stay tuned to shifting-gears.
