Kawasaki Versys 900 teased, could launch in India in 2027

Key highlights

  • New sport tourer gets its first proper glimpse ahead of its global reveal
  • Expected to use the Z900’s 948cc inline-four engine
  • India launch is likely in 2027, positioning it between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100

Kawasaki has released a new teaser of its upcoming Versys 900 sport tourer, offering the clearest look yet at the motorcycle ahead of its global debut. While the Japanese manufacturer has not officially confirmed the model name or specifications, the design and engine note strongly suggest that it will be based on the Z900.

The new motorcycle is expected to fill the gap between the Versys 650 and the larger Versys 1100. It could appeal to riders looking for the performance of a four-cylinder engine combined with the comfort and touring ability of an upright motorcycle.

Touring-focused design

The teaser reveals an upright riding position, a reasonably tall windscreen and a generously proportioned seat. The motorcycle also appears to have mounts for panniers and a top box, highlighting its long-distance touring focus.

Its overall silhouette resembles the existing Versys models, but the front-end styling takes a different direction. The triple-lamp headlight setup appears closer to the Z900 and KLE500 than the Versys 650 or Versys 1100.

The motorcycle is expected to use a reinforced or entirely new chassis to accommodate touring duties and luggage. Longer-travel suspension should help it deal with uneven roads more comfortably than the Z900. The teaser also shows 17-inch alloy wheels and radial front brake callipers, suggesting a road-focused setup rather than a hardcore off-road motorcycle.

Powertrain

The most likely engine candidate is the Z900’s 948 cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four unit. In the Z900, it produces 125 hp and 98.6 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox. Kawasaki could revise the engine tuning and gearing to deliver stronger low- and mid-range performance, which would better suit touring. However, the final output figures remain unconfirmed.

Expected features include riding modes, power modes, traction control, cruise control, a bi-directional quickshifter, dual-channel ABS and a 5-inch TFT display. A remote rear-suspension preload adjuster is also likely, allowing riders to account for a pillion or luggage.

India launch likely in 2027

An India launch appears likely after the global unveiling, expected in 2027. The Versys 900 could sit between the Versys 650, priced at Rs 8.63 lakh, and the Versys 1100, priced at Rs 13.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Pricing and final specifications will be announced closer to launch.
