2027 Honda Rebel 500 gets E-Clutch and a new TFT display

Key highlights

  • Honda Rebel 500 gets a 3.5-inch circular TFT display and revised switchgear
  • E-Clutch becomes available on the global-spec 471 cc cruiser
  • Engine continues to produce 46.2 hp and 43.3 Nm, with India launch expected in early 2027

Honda has revealed the 2027 Rebel 500 with a handful of updates that make its laid-back cruiser package more modern and easier to use. The latest version gets a circular TFT instrument display, revised handlebar switchgear and Honda’s E-Clutch technology, which allows riders to shift gears without operating the clutch lever.

Interestingly, the India-spec Rebel 500 showcased earlier this year already featured the new display and E-Clutch system. The global update therefore brings these features to overseas versions of the motorcycle, while Honda prepares to introduce the locally assembled model in India.

TFT display replaces the LCD console

The most noticeable change is a new 3.5-inch circular TFT instrument cluster, replacing the previous negative LCD unit. The display brings a more contemporary interface while retaining the round design that suits the Rebel’s minimalist styling.

Honda has also revised the left-side switchgear, adding two buttons to make navigating the display and its functions easier. The rest of the motorcycle’s design remains largely unchanged, including its low-slung stance, round headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank and bobber-inspired proportions.

E-Clutch adds convenience without losing manual control

The key mechanical convenience upgrade is Honda’s E-Clutch system. It manages clutch operation electronically, allowing riders to start, stop and change gears without using the clutch lever. Riders can still operate the lever manually when they prefer.

The system could be particularly useful in stop-start traffic, where repeated clutch operation can become tiring. However, it does not turn the Rebel into an automatic motorcycle, as the rider continues to select gears using the shift lever.

The E-Clutch was already announced for the India-spec Rebel 500. Its addition to the global model expands the availability of the technology on Honda’s larger Rebel cruiser.

Engine remains unchanged

The 2027 Rebel 500 continues to use a 471 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing 46.2 hp at 8,500 rpm and 43.3 Nm at 6,000 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox, with no major mechanical changes announced for the new model.

The familiar low-slung bobber styling also carries over, including the round headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank and short exhaust. The motorcycle retains its accessible 690mm seat height, which should make it easier for a wider range of riders to manage at a standstill.

India launch expected in early 2027

Honda showcased the India-spec Rebel 500 in July 2026 as part of its expanded motorcycle line-up. The motorcycle is expected to go on sale here in early 2027, with standard and E-Clutch variants planned.
