Key highlights
- Honda 0 Alpha test mule spotted ahead of its expected production-spec debut by the end of 2026
- India-built electric SUV is expected to go on sale in early 2027
- Two LFP battery options and a front-wheel-drive layout are anticipated, but final specifications remain unconfirmed
Honda’s upcoming 0 Alpha electric SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads, offering another glimpse of the brand’s first all-electric SUV for the Indian market. The heavily camouflaged prototype appears to retain the distinctive proportions of the concept shown at the Japan Mobility Show in 2025.
Honda is expected to reveal the production-spec model by the end of 2026, ahead of its planned market introduction in 2027. India and Japan are expected to be among the first markets to receive the electric SUV.
Distinctive design with a practical cabin
The 0 Alpha stands apart from existing Honda SUVs with its upright rear section, thick C-pillar and large rear windscreen. The near-vertical tailgate gives it an almost MPV-like profile, potentially allowing Honda to maximise cabin space and luggage capacity.
The front is expected to feature an illuminated Honda logo integrated into a panel that also incorporates the headlights and charging-port area. At the rear, a wraparound LED light signature could connect the lighting elements across the tailgate.
Honda had indicated when unveiling the concept that its design was already close to production. The test vehicle suggests that the final model could retain much of this unusual styling, although details remain hidden under camouflage.
Battery options and range remain unconfirmed
Honda has confirmed that the production 0 Alpha will join its global electric vehicle line-up, but detailed technical specifications are yet to be announced.
Reports suggest the SUV could get two LFP battery options, potentially with capacities of around 65 kWh and 75 kWh. A single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration is also expected. However, Honda has not confirmed the battery capacities, motor output, charging speeds or driving range.
India manufacturing and rivals
The 0 Alpha is expected to be manufactured in India, with Honda’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan reported to be the likely production base. Local manufacturing could also support exports to other markets.
Once launched, the SUV will compete with electric midsize SUVs such as the Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, along with upcoming models including the Tata Sierra EV.
