Kawasaki has expanded its 2027 KLX300 range with the new KLX300 XPL, a dual-sport motorcycle. It is based on the standard KLX300 but adds equipment intended to make longer rides more comfortable and carrying luggage easier.
The KLX300 XPL has been revealed for the US market, where it is priced at US$6,499, equivalent to approximately Rs 6.17 lakh before import duties and taxes. Kawasaki India has not announced plans to introduce the model here.
What’s different?
The most noticeable change is the round LED headlight, which gives the XPL a more traditional appearance than the standard KLX300. It also gets a tall transparent windscreen, handguards and a rear carrier with tie-down points for luggage. Distinctive graphics inspired by Kawasaki’s older KX motocross motorcycles complete the look.
The motorcycle retains the KLX300’s dual-sport layout, including a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. This setup, along with its long-travel suspension, is intended to handle a mix of paved roads and off-road trails.
Engine, chassis and new technology
Power comes from a 292 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 26.8 hp at 8,000rpm and 24.9 Nm at 6,800 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Kawasaki has revised the engine’s connecting-rod bearing design for 2027, with the changes aimed at improving performance and durability.
The KLX300 XPL also receives a redesigned digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology app. Front-wheel ABS is standard and can be switched off for off-road riding. The system automatically returns to its default active setting when the motorcycle is restarted.
The suspension comprises a 43mm inverted front fork with adjustable compression damping and a fully adjustable rear monoshock. The bike uses a tubular frame and an aluminium swingarm. Kawasaki lists a seat height of 894 mm and a kerb weight of approximately 142kg, making it a relatively lightweight option for a dual-sport motorcycle.
The company currently sells the smaller KLX230 in India, powered by an air-cooled 233 cc engine. The KLX300 XPL would offer a more powerful, liquid-cooled alternative, but its international price alone does not indicate what it would cost if brought here.
