Hyundai Motor India has launched the Bayon at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new SUV introduces several technology-focused features, including an in-built generative AI voice assistant and Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS. Manufactured in India, the Bayon will also be exported to more than 50 global markets.
Hyundai Bayon engine and gearbox options
The Bayon is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS and 143.8 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT).
The iVT-equipped variants get Dash Boost Mode for quicker responses during overtaking, along with Sporty Drive Tech and paddle shifters. Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes are also available, alongside an Idle Stop and Go system.
Generative AI assistant and dual-screen cockpit
One of the Bayon’s key talking points is Hyundai’s first generative AI voice assistant in India. It combines intelligence from Perplexity with voice technology from SoundHound AI, enabling conversational interactions for information on travel, weather, hotels, restaurants, news and sports. The assistant currently supports English.
The Connected Car Navigation Cockpit features dual 12.3-inch curved displays and NVIDIA technology. Other highlights include more than 70 Bluelink connected features, over-the-air updates for up to 19 controllers, more than 500 embedded voice commands, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a Bose premium sound system.
Level 2 Pro ADAS and six airbags
Hyundai says the Bayon has more than 80 safety features, including 23 Level 2 Pro ADAS functions. These include Highway Driving Assist, navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, a Surround View Monitor and a Blind-spot View Monitor.
Six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-start Assist Control and a tyre pressure monitoring system are standard across all variants. Hyundai says the SUV’s body structure uses 69% advanced multi-grade high-strength steel. Its five-star Indian safety positioning is based on the company’s internal assessment, not a published independent crash-test result.
Dimensions, boot space and variants
The Bayon measures 4,245 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase and 205 mm of ground clearance. Boot capacity is rated at 505 litres.
Features include ventilated front seats, an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, reclining rear seats and a wireless phone charger.
The SUV will be offered in HX2, HX3, HX3+, HX5, HX6, HX8 and HX10 manual variants, while the iVT is available from HX5 onwards. There are 10 exterior colour options, including matte and dual-tone finishes.
