Ather Energy hits 5 lakh production milestone

Key highlights

  • Ather crosses 5 lakh electric scooters produced, with the milestone unit being the Rizta.
  • Rizta now accounts for over one-third of Ather’s total production volume.
  • New Factory 3.0 in Maharashtra will push annual capacity to 1.42 million units.

Ather Energy has officially rolled out its 5,00,000th electric scooter from its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The milestone unit was the Rizta, Ather’s family-focused scooter that’s quickly become a core growth driver since its launch last year. This achievement marks a significant moment for the Bengaluru-based EV maker, which started its journey in 2013 and launched its first scooter in 2018.

Rizta leads the charge

The Rizta has emerged as a breakout hit for Ather. Within a year of launch, it now contributes over one-third of the company’s total production volume. Designed for families and daily commuters, the Rizta complements Ather’s performance-focused 450 series and has helped the brand expand into tier 2 and 3 cities across North and Central India.

Its success has also accelerated Ather’s retail footprint, with more dealerships popping up in smaller towns alongside metro markets.

Scaling up with Factory 3.0

To meet rising demand, Ather is building a third manufacturing facility—Factory 3.0—in Bidkin, AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant will be developed in two phases and will follow Industry 4.0 principles, integrating advanced digital tech into production.

Once fully operational, Factory 3.0 will boost Ather’s total installed capacity to 1.42 million electric two-wheelers annually. That’s a serious leap from its current 4.2 lakh capacity at Hosur.

Fast-charging and IP portfolio

Ather isn’t just about scooters. It also runs India’s largest two-wheeler fast-charging network, Ather Grid, with 4,032 chargers installed across India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The company’s R&D game is strong too—with 318 trademarks, 204 registered designs, and 48 patents already in the bag.

Our thoughts

This is Ather showing it’s not just a startup anymore, it’s a serious player. The 5 lakh milestone wasn’t marked by a flashy performance scooter but by the Rizta. That’s a quiet flex. It proves that practicality sells, and Ather knows how to build for real-world India.
