BYD India has confirmed that the SEALION 7 will become more expensive from 1 January 2026. The company has called this a planned and transparent price revision, and it comes at a time when the electric SUV is gaining strong traction in the premium EV space. Buyers who book the car before 31 December 2025 can still lock in the current ex-showroom prices, which gives fence-sitters a neat little window to make up their minds.
Current pricing
The SEALION 7 currently sells in two variants. The Premium trim, priced at INR 48.90 lakh, uses an 82.56 kWh battery with a single-motor setup. The Performance trim sits at INR 54.90 lakh and adds a dual-motor layout with a sizeable bump in power. Both versions use BYD’s impressive Blade Battery that forms part of the structure through Cell-to-Body construction. This frees up space, helps the SUV feel tighter on the road, and adds another layer of safety. The model also carries a 5-star NCAP rating, which only strengthens its case.
Powertrain
The Premium variant makes 308 hp and 380 Nm, good for a 0–100 km/h time of 6.7 seconds. The Performance variant takes things up a notch with 523 hp and 690 Nm. The numbers translate to a quick 4.5-second sprint to 100 kmph, which puts it right in the company of European performance SUVs. Range is solid too, at 567 km for the Premium and 542 km for the Performance, both as per NEDC.
The SEALION 7 has sold more than 2,000 units since its launch in India. That’s not a small feat for a premium EV brand still expanding its presence. BYD now has 47 dealerships across 40 cities and continues to push for wider reach.
Price hike timeline
The company says the price update planned for early 2026 reflects market conditions and future product strategy. But the intention to give customers advance notice is smart. It avoids surprise hikes and gives buyers nearly a full year to plan. For a premium EV that aims to convert curious shoppers into long-term believers, that transparency helps maintain trust.
Globally, BYD continues to dominate the NEV market with more than 14 million units sold so far. The company claims its EVs have prevented over 118 billion kilograms of COâ‚‚ emissions. That kind of scale trickles down to models like the SEALION 7, which benefit from years of battery innovation and manufacturing expertise.
