Ducati V21L solid-state battery: What do we know?
Based on the success of its MotoE motorcycle, Ducati has revealed a new prototype bike that uses the V21L’s body and embeds solid-state batteries in it, taking the electrification game one step ahead.
As per the details shared by the Italian manufacturer, it is continuing its research and development of the new V21L prototype with solid-state batteries sourced from QuantumScape. In fact, it became the first-ever bike to be ridden using QuantumScape lithium-metal batteries.
Statistically speaking, the solid-state battery setup is a more efficient, energy-dense, and safer setup than the lithium-ion batteries. It is its compact size that makes it further suitable for an agile setup.
This race prototype has been specifically developed by VW’s team, the company that owns Ducati currently. As per the brand, these new batteries produce 844 watt-hours per litre charge, and these can be fast charged from 10% within 12 minutes.
If so, this technology could become a game-changer for electric motorcycles in the future. Additionally, more manufacturers will develop bikes around the solid-state batteries to make sure they offer the best products.
For now, the next step is to take this bike to the track for further testing. More details shall be revealed in the future.
