New road tax for electric cars in Karnataka soon
Following the trail left by the Gujarat, Haryana, and Kerala state governments, the Karnataka state government is soon going to impose road tax on electric vehicles. Online rumours suggest that the new tax slab structure has been designed, and it is likely to be imposed from the next financial year.
As per the reports, EVs like the Tata Punch EV and the MG Comet EV, which are priced below Rs 10 lakh, will be subjected to 5% road tax. Further, EVs priced at Rs 10-25 lakh, including the popular cars like the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor EV, etc, will be subjected to 8% road tax.
However, the biggest road tax of 10% will be imposed on EVs priced above Rs 25 lakh, which includes cars like the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, and more.
